आसमान के 90 डिग्री से 120 डिग्री तक के भाग का नामकरण कर्क राशि के रूप में किया गया है। जिस बच्‍चे के जन्‍म के समय यह भाग आसमान के पूर्वी क्षितिज में उदित होता दिखाई देता है , उस बच्‍चे का लग्‍न कर्क माना जाता है। कर्क लग्‍न की कुंडली के अनुसार मन का स्‍वामी चंद्र प्रथम भाव का स्‍वामी होता है और यह जातक के शरीर , स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य , व्‍यक्तित्‍व , आत्‍विश्‍वास आदि का प्रतिनिधित्‍व करता है। इसलिए कर्क लग्‍न के जातकों के मन को पूर्ण तौर पर संतुष्‍ट करने वाले ये सारे संदर्भ ही होते है। जन्‍मकुंडली , दशाकाल या गोचर में चंद्र के मजबूत रहने पर स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य की मजबूत स्थिति से कर्क लग्‍न के जातक का मन खुश और जन्‍मकुंडली या गोचर में चंद्र के कमजोर रहने पर स्‍वास्‍थ्‍य की कमजोर स्थिति से इनका मन आहत होता है। 'गत्यात्मक ज्योतिष' चन्द्रमा की शक्ति का निर्णय इसके आकार के आधार पर करता है। अमावस के चन्द्रमा को शुन्य, दोनों अष्टमी के चन्द्रमा को 50 और पूर्णिमा के चन्द्रमा को 100 प्रतिशत गत्यात्मक शक्ति दी जाती है।

कर्क लग्‍न की कुंडली के अनुसार समस्‍त जगत में चमक बिखेरने वाला सूर्य द्वितीय भाव का स्‍वामी होता है और यह जातक के धन , कोष , परिवार का प्रतिनिधित्‍व करता है। इसलिए अपने नाम यश को फैलाने के लिए कर्क लग्‍न के जातक धन की स्थिति को मजबूत बनाने पर जोर देते हैं। नाम यश फैलाने के लिए इन्‍हें धनार्जन के सिवा कोई उपाय नहीं दिखता। जन्‍मकुंडली , दशाकाल या गोचर में सूर्य के मजबूत रहने पर धन कोष की मजबूती से इनकी कीर्ति फैलती और जन्‍मकुंडली या गोचर में सूर्य के कमजोर रहने पर धन की कमी से इनकी कीर्ति घटती है।  'त्यात्मक ज्योतिष' में सूर्य को हर वक्त 50 प्रतिशत गत्यात्मक शक्ति दी जाती है, पर यह जिस ग्रह की राशि में होता है, उससे इन्हे गत्यात्मक शक्ति प्रभावित होकर थोड़ी धनात्मक या ऋणात्मक हो जाती  है।

कर्क लग्‍न की कुंडली के अनुसार मंगल पंचम और दशम भाव का स्‍वामी होता है और यह जातक के बुद्धि , ज्ञान , संतान , पिता , पद प्रतिष्‍ठा तथा सामाजिक राजनीतिक स्थिति का प्रतिनिधित्‍व करता है। इसलिए इस लग्‍न के जातकों के प्रतिष्‍ठा का अपने या संतान पक्ष के बुद्धि ज्ञान से  सहसंबंध होता है। जन्‍मकुंडली , दशाकाल या गोचर में मंगल के मजबूत रहने पर  बुद्धि ज्ञान की स्थिति मजूबत होकर अपनी प्रतिष्‍ठा के साथ साथ संतान पक्ष से भी प्रतिष्‍ठा में बढोत्‍तरी की संभावना बनाती है । विपरीत स्थिति में यानि जन्‍मकुंडली , दशाकाल या गोचर में मंगल के कमजोर रहने पर न तो समाज में अपनी पहचान बनाने में कामयाबी मिलती है और न ही संतान से सुख प्राप्‍त हो पाता है।   'गत्यात्मक ज्योतिष' मंगल की शक्ति का निर्णय इसके सूर्य के निकट होने या दूर होने से करता है, जन्मकुंडली में मंगल सूर्य के निकट हो तो मंगल को अधिकतम गत्यात्मक शक्ति मिलती है, सूर्य से जितना दूर होता है, शक्ति घटती जाती है, सूर्य और मंगल आमने सामने हो तो मंगल काफी कमजोर होता है।
